Lake Norman Charlotte NC Area Job and Economic News

New intermodal railroad facility expected to bring jobs, boost local economy

The tracks aren't laid and the trains aren't rolling, but something new is ready to go to west Charlotte.

“This is huge deal. It's probably one of the biggest deals we've had in Charlotte in probably 10 years," said Mayor Anthony Foxx.

The Charlotte Regional Intermodal Facility will link up planes, trains and trucks as they transport goods along the East Coast. The city and Norfolk Southern say it will get trucks off the roads, create an estimated 7000 jobs and bring about $7.9 billion a year to the area's economy by 2030.
